I selected the option to quick ship on my case file, what exactly will happen?

I know what quick ship means, but the question is should I expect to be sent out within 2-3 mos? Would you recommend I enlist open general in the AF, I would prefer a programming or intel yst job but these seem to fill quickly and I dont want to be job locked, I just want to get in and represent the big blue proudly.
