Should I do english or western with my mule?

I am not a judge of mule conformation, but he is a good looking fellow. It would probably be more important in making a decision about riding (instead of in-hand) to take a look at his movement. Does he have a longer, more ground covering stride, or a shorter, more compact, smoother stride? I longer stride would lend itself toward english, and a more compact stride would be more western.
